Warmest Aloha to you!

Dear Friends,
I am writing you from a tiny little island way out in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, a little paradise realm called Maui! I have been here a month and feel so full of gratitude for the healing, nurturing and peace that I am filled with. Everything here feels soft; I feel that there is this constant gentle hum of silence that pervades each moment of the day. Right now there is a gentle breeze outside my window, the palms are softly swaying and sighing, and the doves are cooing along with many other songbirds adding their unique song to the mix.

I have been able to breathe so deeply, to relax completely, to feel who I am without stress, without tension or worry, and I love who I am here. An effortless joy flows, and I vow to live my life in this deep peace and well being. I realize that when we are happy and deeply at peace, doing what we love, we are a natural and effortless blessing, just by being.

I spoke a few weeks ago at the Unity of Maui, a very sweet spiritual community here, and my talk was entitled "Three keys to enlightened living: Letting Go, Gratitude, and Giving". I wrote a new song the other night, called "Let Go In Love". In the softness here, I realize that as we evolve, and as we are able to identify more with the awareness we are, with the love that is our essence, we can let go more easily, with love in our hearts. We don't have to create a big story of separation from the "other" and then uphold that story and constantly re-live all the negative emotions that go with it, like resentment, anger, hurt, fear, blame as so on. We can feel the space of consciousness around the story the mind wants to tell, we can feel space in our hearts to hold ourselves and the situation, and we can more gently and lovingly let go. We can be present, breathe in, feel awareness, and allow the story , which is always in the past or future, to just gently dissolve in the present and presence that we are.

As I sit and often watch the sunset here, with the gentle ocean waves lapping at my feet, the gratitude I feel for life is overwhelming. I often find tears flowing down my face; tears of joy for just being alive and witnessing the beauty that is here. Gratitude is a very open state; it gives rise to joy. When we find ourselves telling a story of why we cannot be happy, we can shift our focus and consider what is good, what is working, what is a blessing, and give that our attention. We then create a shift in our emotional body (which responds without fail to our thoughts), and that shift into gratitude will support the well being of each and every cell in our body.

You know, I have been affected in a financial way by this recession, as probably you have, and so many people I know have. But I have realized it has been a wonderful teaching for me. It has given me the choice to either go into fear, survival and lack, or to move more into a fearless knowing that as I give I receive, and to just give all that I am, live my dharmic path to the fullest, and worry not. Have faith and tie up your camel! Do what you can using your creative genius, and bless in every way possible with your life and gifts. I have created a CD of new music, music that really transmits an expanded and supportive consciousness, and I have refused to be limited by fear or finances. And it feels so good, so liberating, to trust, and to give, and to know this is right and have no doubt about it. I love Eckhart Tolle's quote, "Outflow determines inflow. Whatever you think the world is withholding from you, you already hav e, but unless you allow it to flow out, you won't even know that you have it." As Jesus so beautifully put it, "give and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap."

And so, I invite you to join me, in letting go in love, in feeling grateful for what is good, what is right in your life, and giving your gifts with joy and abandonment! Thank you for your presence in my life and for the blessing I know you are to the world!

With the most loving aloha,
Kathy Zavada

Quotes

"How easily Nature overcomes every obstacle. The tiny ant walks over the stone. The roots of the tree embrace the rocks in the soil. The river flows around every log and boulder in its way. Like Nature, we should adapt to life's circumstances, overcoming them with patience and enthusiasm." Amma (MataAmritanandamayi)

"If we cannot be happy in spite of our difficulties, what good is our spiritual practice?"
Maha Ghosananda

"How far you go in life depends on your being tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving, and tolerant of the weak and the strong. Because someday you will have been all of these."
George Washington Carver
